- I have just completed a port of ISODE v7.0 to the PC-DOS environment. It is
- available via anonymous ftp from cc-vms1.massey.ac.nz (130.123.1.4) in the
- file dosisode70.zip. I suggest you pick up the readme file first (dosreadme).
- There are some restrictions..
-
- 1. I used the DJ port of the GNU C compiler. This requires that you
- use either a 386SX or bigger processor.
-
- 2. I used the Waterloo TCP/IP suite on top of Packet Drivers, so all of the
- code is essentially 'free'.
-
- 3. I believe the latest version of GNU C is compatible with Windows 3.1, but
- I haven't tested it.
-
- 4. The problem of running two different TCP/IP stacks concurrently may
- occur. (eg Sun's PC/NFS even over packet drivers will not
- work alongside the Waterloo package - but see 5.!)
-
- 5. There is a packet driver add-on PKTMUX around that says it gets around
- problem 4! I have not tested it.
-
- 6. Only client programs have been ported - no servers. They are...
- PEPY,POSY,PEPSY,ROSY,FTAM,ISOC,IMISC,DISH,SD and DE
-
- 7. Minimal testing!
-
- I would like to thank Eric Engelke (Waterloo), DJ Delorie, GNU and many
- others who's software I have used, and also CSIRO's DIT in Melbourne who
- set me off along this path several years ago.
-
- This completes my porting of ISODE to other environments (Mac and VMS are
- also at the above address). I had hoped, at one stage, to include OS/2, but
- prices here in NZ for the OS and TCP stack are rather inflated at present.
- Any money I can scrounge would only cover the hardware needed. (The DOS
- port was done on a communal machine!)

-
- PS for those who don't want to rebuild everything I have also made up a file
- (dosisode-runtime.zip) that contains only .exe files and configuration
- directories. This file is considerably bigger than the source, and I would
- prefer that you not transfer it, if at all possible, as we get to pay
- for your transfers.

- This has been copied to archie.au:/projects/directory-services/isode
-
- which is a faster accessed service hosted in Australia, and should be used
- in preference to the NZ source. I will keep this up-to-date as Peter sends
- me fixed versions. [thanks to the archive group as instantiated in Mark Prior]
